Exported in bulk and earned foreign exchange of Rs.3150 million in
addition to supplying Iron Ore to domestic steel plants. Thus helping make our
country economically self-reliant.
Heartened by this success, we set about prospecting in other
intractable parts of our country and struck iron. At Donimalai,
Meghahatuburu and Bailadila again.
Another six projects under investigation. Important in the list are Bababudan
Magnetite deposit in Karnataka, Malangtoli in Orissa and Bailadila-4, 11 C and
13 deposits in the Bailadila range of Madhya Pradesh.
We have not been slow in thinking up ways of improving the
profitability of our mines. By putting to use the fines that have been and are
being produced, by agglomeration. We have thus entered a new phase of
technological activity by deciding to set up two pallet plants of 2 million
tonne capacity each, at Bailadila and Donimalai, involving a capital investment
of Rs. 1500 million.
In the process, developing our own technical know-how. From
prospecting to designing, engineering and erecting mines and pellet plants.
The total investment of
Rs. 3800 million when all our projects are completed will help us in
more than doubling our out-put by the end of the seventies.
