A subscriber can get access to any other subscriber in the
national telex network by direct dialing. Messages can be received and
acknowledged even when the office is closed.
The telex system was first introduced in India on a
nation-wide basis in June 1963 with simultaneous commissioning of telex at
Delhi, Calcutta, Bombay and Madras.
The Indian telex network is connected to the international
telex.
The teleprinter exchange equipment, long
distance transmission equipment and the dialing unit required for the telex
service are being manufactured by the Indian Telephone Industries to the
specifications of the Posts and Telegraphs Department.
